A useful first review includes full-surface photos, close-ups of damage and edges, approximate dimensions, quantities, location, access limits, operating hours, desired finish direction, and target timing. For recurring units or rooms, identify what repeats and what varies.
Architectural film is not a substitute for structural repair. Existing coatings, loose laminate, moisture exposure, damaged substrate, hardware, corners, seams, and cleaning conditions affect whether a surface can be considered.

UNDERSTAND ARCHITECTURAL FILM
Architectural film is a thin, self-adhesive decorative surfacing material used to change the appearance of suitable existing doors, wall panels, millwork, casework, elevator panels, and fixtures. Finish families may include wood, stone, metal, solid color, textile, leather, concrete, and specialty effects.
Refinishing can retain serviceable components and reduce demolition, replacement work, and operational disruption. It does not repair structural damage, active water intrusion, unstable coatings, failing laminate, or deteriorated substrate. Those conditions must be identified and corrected before a finish is approved.
Successful work depends on substrate evaluation, preparation, edge and seam planning, correct material selection, trained installation, and care procedures that match the actual space.
PERFORMANCE, HEALTH & ENVIRONMENT
Some architectural films have documented flame-spread and smoke-development classifications. The required rating depends on the selected product, substrate, adhesive system, installation details, occupancy, and applicable code. Request current test documentation for the exact specification.
A cleanable surface or documented antimicrobial property does not correct a moisture source. Leaks, persistent condensation, mold, damaged wall systems, and wet substrates require appropriate investigation and remediation before film installation.
For occupied interiors, review current VOC emissions, chemical-content, and indoor-air-quality documentation for the selected material. Low-emitting products can support healthier material selection, but “odor-free” should not be assumed. Coordinate ventilation and follow installation guidance.
Service life depends on the product, substrate, preparation, exposure, cleaning chemistry, impact, and edge conditions. Confirm approved cleaners and maintenance procedures; harsh abrasives, sharp objects, graffiti, misuse, and physical damage are separate from manufacturing performance.
