How to Review a Commercial Finish Sample
A small swatch can establish a direction. An installed sample shows how that direction meets the real surface, lighting and daily use of your property.
Check Color and Texture in the Space
View the physical sample beside the finishes that will remain. Check it under the property’s daytime and evening lighting, from normal viewing distances and at an angle. Screen images are a starting point, not a color approval.
Include a Real Edge and a Real Seam
For film, include a representative return, corner, seam and hardware boundary in the mock-up. For wallcovering, include the proposed seam and pattern match. A flat loose sample cannot confirm how these details will look after installation.
Use the Actual Preparation System
Identify the sample location and record the existing coating, cleaning, repairs, primer or sealer and selected product. Have the installer follow the manufacturer’s adhesion-check procedure. Approval of appearance is separate from approval of substrate suitability.
Record What Was Approved
Keep the manufacturer, series, pattern code, grain direction, seam position and accepted detail with the project scope. Note remaining questions and who approves changes. Confirm cleaning instructions and retain a labeled sample for future comparisons or repair discussions.
