Moisture And Restrooms: Review The Whole Assembly

For a commercial restroom, start with where water goes and what is behind the finish. A decorative film is not a repair for a moisture-damaged assembly.

Separate Exposure Conditions

Distinguish a dry cabinet face from a splash zone, a continuously wet surface and a shower enclosure. Give the manufacturer or project reviewer the exact location, substrate and cleaning routine. Do not transfer an approval for one area to another with different exposure.

Resolve The Substrate First

Document swelling, open joints, failed sealant and active leaks before discussing color. Ask the responsible trade to correct the underlying problem and define compatible edge details. Confirm the selected system’s use limitations in writing before agreeing to installation or warranty coverage.

Before Your Project Review

  • Photograph water exposure and damaged edges.
  • Record substrate and cleaning chemicals.
  • Obtain an application-specific review.
