PROJECT PLANNING

Elevator Interior Refinishing: A Site Survey Checklist

Before choosing a finish for an elevator cab, document the surfaces, operating constraints and responsible trades. This checklist helps Las Vegas property teams assemble a useful review package without treating a decorative finish as a mechanical upgrade.

Identify Each Surface Separately

Photograph the entire cab, then each panel, door surround, handrail boundary and ceiling detail within the proposed scope. Give each surface a simple reference number. Separate cab panels from landing doors and adjacent lobby finishes; they can have different substrates, access requirements and approval paths. Record the number of cabs and which components should remain untouched.

Record Condition and Geometry

Include close-ups of dents, loose coatings, joints, corners and existing film edges. Measure individual panels rather than only the cab perimeter. Note grain direction, exposed returns and proposed seam locations. A finish review needs to distinguish cosmetic wear from loose assemblies or substrate damage; required repairs belong in the scope before material quantities are finalized.

Coordinate Access With the Elevator Team

Ask the property and elevator contractor who controls service access, cab availability and any isolation or protection arrangements. Identify passenger demand, deliveries, accessible routes and the sequence for returning each cab to service. Atlas handles the agreed finish scope; mechanical, electrical, door-operator and safety-system work stays with the responsible elevator professionals. Do not assume a standard shutdown duration from photographs alone.

Build a Reviewable Finish Package

Pair the surface schedule with manufacturer and pattern codes, a physical sample, substrate information and the project’s documentation requirements. Confirm who approves appearance and who reviews assembly or code requirements. Keep those decisions distinct. A representative mockup should include a real corner or edge where practical, rather than only a loose flat swatch.

Prepare Your Review Package

Send: cab count; labeled overview and detail photos; panel dimensions; substrate and damage notes; finish references; access windows; elevator-contractor contact; and required approvals. For the difference between surface work and equipment modernization, use the related elevator planning guide.
