Those terms help a team find an initial visual direction; the final choice is still the exact pattern code, not the category name.
A commercial selection should reflect the design task. Use wood and leather directions when warmth and grain control matter; stone or marble directions for a more mineral visual language; metal for a sharper, reflective, or industrial note; fabric for a softer material cue; and solids when a controlled color field is more important than a simulated natural material. Review the full sample rather than assuming a small on-screen swatch shows the repeat, sheen, or embossing accurately.
2. Review the substrate before you approve a pattern
A Samsung SOIF pattern can be a starting point for a door, panel, cabinet face, wall feature, elevator interior, or fixture, but each surface needs its own review. Document existing coatings, edge condition, joints, hardware, chips, moisture, heat, cleaning exposure, and access. Film does not repair an unstable coating, loose substrate, warped component, or water-damaged board.
Smoothness and preparation are especially important around MDF or particle-board edges, seams, and repaired areas. Confirm the selected product's guidance for primer, temperature, handling, and installation before work begins. A sample installation on a representative component is more informative than a flat sample alone when a project has visible corners, seams, or repeated wood grain.
3. Plan the finish around the way the property operates
Hotels, casinos, gyms, offices, and retail spaces use surfaces differently. A high-touch door, locker bank, reception desk, elevator cab, or corridor feature needs a discussion about cleaning, abrasion, edges, and the work sequence. A finish category alone does not answer those questions. Confirm product-specific maintenance information and the property's cleaner list before approval.
For an occupied project, define a test area, protection method, release window, and inspection point before repeating a finish across rooms or floors. Keep the approved SOIF pattern code, sample decision, and maintenance information in the final project record. That makes later touch-up or repair conversations more practical.
